An updated list of jobs available for new immigrants from outside the EU has now been published. The jobs were compiled using the advice of a panel of experts which determined the positions that British workers lacked the numbers to fill. The list included positions such as chemical and civil engineers, geologists, senior nurses, and construction managers. The only surprise came with the addition of social workers. The Migration Advisory Committee didn't make this recommendation but the minsters pushed it through as a precaution citing that the MAC didn't review some important evidence. For now, it's a precautionary action. Other jobs are going to be reviewed soon. The MAC will review the addition of skilled chef and senior care worker. They will also re-examine whether math and science teachers should remain on the list after a complete analysis of all teaching positions by next March. Town planner was not added to the list, but it will remain under review. The hard news is that this list shows a drop of 200,000 jobs available to immigrants. The good news comes from the British Association of Social Workers, which was happy with their addition to the list. Nearly 12% of social worker positions are vacant at this time and a new source of recruits would be welcomed with open arms. Next news article: Golden Rule Bent For New UK Jobs |
