It has been suggested that London is the location that the majority of graduates in IT, computer science and other IT-related courses choose to start their careers. The leader of InterQuest Group, David Bevan, comments that most of the IT positions are based in the capital thanks to the large proportion of companies setting up headquarters in or around London.
He tells that "Graduates tend to establish themselves in a career in London and then take their skills out to other regions" although he did continue to say that there are industries in which companies steer clear of the city for their head offices and opt for more rural locations instead. Retail is just one example of this and such positions will be of great appeal to IT students not wishing to relocate to the south-east.
While any number of companies will continue to migrate out of the capital, Mr Bevan added that London's dominance in IT recruiting is unlikely to be challenged.
The latest figures from CV screen show that IT job applications increased by 17 per cent over Januray and February when stacked up against the last 3 months of 2007.
