London Less Of A Draw For Graduates |

Things are changing for today's graduates. A report by Milkround analyzed the employment decisions for about 100 graduates. They found that there are less people moving towards the higher salaries in London. Only 60% of the graduates are looking for work in London, which is down 11% from last year's results. This is accompanied by a rise in the number of people who have completely ruled out a possible job in London. 34% are now opposed to it compared to 28% last year. This isn't necessarily a big result against city life in general though. 73% would still want to live and work in a city and 48% specifically want to live in the central city with only 25% leaning toward the suburbs. It is possible that this means London's loss will be others' gain. South East England is also still growing in popularity despite London's failings. 24% now state that they wish to work in the region compared to only 19% before. North England is holding on though, with 21% of graduates still interested. That is only a 3% fall from the year before. Wales and Northern Ireland haven't seen much change. Unfortunately, they are not viewed as places graduates expect to find their dream job. This is surprising considering the recent growth in Cardiff as a business center. It isn't too surprising in the end though. 63% of graduates wanted a home close to their job, 34% wanted somewhere with a low cost of living, and 30% want to have family close by. London isn't known for any of these. In light of the Milkround survey, the demand for property in London could face a decline, with more people looking to the nearby country for a reasonable commute granting the best of both worlds.
