Lack Of Sexy IT Jobs Reduces Movement Of IT Execs |

New surveys indicate that most senior IT professionals are not looking for new jobs in the current downturn. This seems to result primarily from a lack of new projects that they'd find interesting or challenging. Harvey Nash, a major recruitment firm, cited a simple explanation. With more companies cutting innovative projects, there just aren't any "sexy" positions. No IT member would want to make a strenuous move if their only reward was more of the same old work. This isn't the only reason though. Numerous CIOs weren't considering a change due to the economic instability plaguing the market. Most felt better staying in a secure position until the downturn ceases. This obviously doesn't mean that they aren't still looking. The survey conducted by Harvey Nash revealed that 72% of the 360 CIOs surveyed were seeking new employment. 63% fully expected to work somewhere else in the next two years. This may be an optimistic number though. Growing economic uncertainty will probably mean that most won't find this new job. This is especially true if one remembers that last year's survey showed that new challenging IT projects prompted most transfers. As mentioned before, these projects are just not forming.
