Jaguar Land Rover of West Midlands and Warwickshire are planning to cut 850 jobs. Engineers and IT professionals at factories in Solihull, Whitley, Castle Bromwich, and Gaydon were informed that their positions will be cut by the year's end. The cuts were deemed necessary to handle the harsh current market for cars. They had already cut 600 jobs as part of a voluntary redundancy plan. They had already switched to 4-day weeks last August as they faced a sharp decline in trading conditions and rumors swirled that they were trying to secure a £1bn government loan. This announcement arrived as various representatives of the construction and car industries in the UK meet with ministers to request government aid. The company was previously purchased from Ford last March by Indian car provider Tata for the sum of £1.15bn. 16,000 employees are based out of their other plants at West Midlands, Merseyside, and Halewood.
