A new survey from Charted Management Institute shows that IT executives are worried about their future, but not hopeless. A number fear unemployment and feel increasingly stressed while working, yet many feel that the IT sector will be fine if long-term goals are kept in mind. This survey asked a number of questions to over 1,000 executives. Only 9% of IT execs surveyed felt that they had much job security. 61% believe that their organization will suffer from the recent economic crisis. 63% also found that their work was becoming more stressful. 41% admitted to actually losing sleep over their concerns. Their concerns may be justified though. IT professionals with jobs are in a bad situation. 37% of those surveyed stated that their organization was no longer recruiting. 45% did respond that the employees already hired were in further training though. This is a sign of long-term growth which should help the whole organization remain competitive in the future. This wasn't the only sign of long-term goals. 91% of those surveyed claim that they've been affected by redundancy, which cause them to focus on the long-term. 33% are still willing to take risks in their job. 66% would be willing to move to another job. 37% would like a promotion, despite the stress concerns. 43% are even hopeful about their own company's future. If the companies adopt such a perspective, then we should continue to see improvement. Companies must look long-term and avoid any reactionary policy that will make things worse. 68% personally felt that new discoveries and innovations are the most effective method for rising above the recession. Only 39% felt that cutting costs should be a key factor. Next news article: Senior Banking Execs Fall by the Wayside |
