There is good news in the aircraft manufacturing community. Spirit Europe, a Prestwick based aircraft company, has firmly secured two contracts from Airbus. They hope that this will ensure roughly 750 at their Ayrshire plant for the specified nine years of the contract. This contract concerns plans for Airbus’ A350 XWB model. They will be designing and then manufacturing one of the major component for the model’s wing. Along with this the Ayrshire plant has secured an extension for production of parts used in the A319, A320, and Airbus’ A321. Their original contract would have expired in 2011. It has now been extended to 2015. Overall this will be a significant deal for the firm. The original extension will probably earn an additional £900m for the company. Their new contract for the A350 XWB will probably grant them the lion’s share of the invested £1bn before it expires in 2017. Spirit Europe, the UK branch of Spirit AeroSystems, was ecstatic about these new deals and the jobs they will secure. It will also continue a long history of Spirit Europe’s work for Airbus’ latest models. Officials in Ayrshire are also thrilled with the expected economic boost the new work will bring. They have long valued the place that aerospace work has in their community and hope that these new contracts will only further the relationship. Next news article: 300 Jobs go at Firstplus |
